Foreign Language Studies
“Learning a language is a holistic process that involves developing the appropriate linguistic strategies to communicate with native speakers, attaining full comprehension of their literature, developing sensitivity to different cultural idiosyncrasies, and appreciating the history and tradition of the language. Living in a multicultural society allows language learners and instructors to identify local communities and engage in service projects with individuals of international backgrounds. Integrating service learning in the foreign language curriculum encourages students to transcend the classroom boundaries by partaking in service practices that make them more aware of their global responsibility and civic engagement. Learning and teaching a language encourages us to broaden our perspectives, grow intellectually, and understand what it means to be a citizen of the world.”
